Success stories

Riley Riley was rescued from a shelter in Brooklyn when it closed down. He was discovered to have epilepsy, and Paws paid for all the medical attention he needed. Riley now lives a happy and healthy life in his new home in Albany!

Dozer Dozer was a very young, energetic dog, and his family was too busy with the babies to give him the attention he was used to getting. Dozer is now living with a couple who have a large, fenced-in yard. He goes for walks every morning and night. He loves to play with the ball and enjoys his weekly trips to the dog park. Paws Unlimited is in contact with Dozer's parents every few weeks to check in on him. They love him, he loves them, and all are happy. Dozer adapted to his home very quickly. All he needed was someone to give him the love he deserves.

Willy's owners contacted Paws Unlimited because they didn't have the time to give Willy what he needed. Several visits were made to Willy to see how he would do in different situations. He had a tremendous amount of energy and wasn't able to get rid of it. He just wanted to be able to love someone and be there for them. Willy was placed in a home with another Weimeraner and they enjoy five acres of property to run around on. Because he is able to run around so much during the day, this little guy has no problem sleeping at night. There are reports that he snores very loudly and likes to sleep on his back with his feet up against the wall.

A home was found for Molly where she can fulfill her dream of being helpful. She lives on a large dairy farm in Vermont and although she has the herding instinct, she respects the cows and doesn't crowd them. She enjoys living on a farm. There are all kinds of animals she can play with. Her favorite thing is being around when the cows are milked. She positions herself in the right spot each morning and gets lots of milk. She likes to walk around with a milk moustache. She never has to worry about being chained up in someone's yard again. She loves her life.

Podo's grandparents contacted Paws Unlimited for help. Their son could no longer keep his beloved Podo. They were not able to take Podo because they already had several dogs and there wasn't room for another. After several weeks of searching for the right place, Podo moved into a home with a family. He loves his new home. He has a Pekinese sister and they both adore each other. Paws Unlimited paid for a trainer to help Podo adjust to his new home. Podo is doing fine and loves having someone to play with. As you can see from his photo, he is a very handsome dog.

Clyde and Lily's owner had a very short time to find homes for them. She was overwhelmed by everything and thought the only thing to do was take them to a shelter. Shari from Paws Unlimited offered to pay for boarding at a kennel until homes were found for them. She also paid for all their food and shots, and anything else they needed. Shari knew that if Clyde and Lily were taken to a shelter, they would likely not have come out again. Eventually their owner found two very nice people, who each took one of the dogs. Even though Clye and Lily were brother and sister, and had been together since they were born, Shari and their owner agreed that they would be okay living in two different places -- as long as they were loved.

So far they have been in their new homes for a few months and they are both happy. Shari calls their new owners often to make sure they are properly fed and sheltered. They are very happy in their new homes.

Shari was contacted by a woman who needed help placing Sienna, a two and a half year-old female. Sienna needed a new home with someone who could give her lots of love. She had been living in a home with a man that beat her. The woman who fostered her couldn't keep her, but refused to take her to the shelter. Shari met Sienna and saw immediately that she was a very sweet, loving girl. She was living in a home with another dog and the two got along very well. The plan was to find a good home, hopefully with children and owners who understood what she had been through.

Fliers were put in various vets offices and pet stores. Arrangements were made to go home on visits. After a couple of failed attempts (not due at all to Sienna), a wonderful family contacted the woman fostering Sienna and arrangements were made to meet the prospective family. The visit went very well. Sienna met the three children and two other dogs, and within minutes she was playing in the yard with them. It was a perfect match. Within a little while, she actually approached the father of the family and sat right down next to him. Her fear of men quickly vanished. She is now living with this family and enjoying every minute of every day. She is very happy and will never have to worry about being beat up again.

Macy's owners contacted Shari because they had decided to give her up and needed help. Paws Unlimited always meets the family and the pet to see what is going on. The problem was that Macy's owners had no time for her. The father of the family was always at work, and the mother had two very young children. This took up a lot of her time, so Macy was left tied up in the back yard or taken to run on a short run in an area that is just dirt. The first thing Paws Unlimited did was purchase an insulated dog house so that Macy would be protected from the elements.

When Shari saw the dog and the conditions Macy had to stay in, she explained to the owners that Macy was not an outside dog and they needed to find some time to help this dog. They also needed her in the house. They had a yard with an invisible fence, but Macy was always running away. Shari convinced them to work with a trainer who went in and spent time showing them the things to do in order to have a well trained dog. Macy is a very energetic dog and trying to place her in another home would have not been easy. It is always better to keep a pet with a family rather then placing them in a new home. The owners are in touch occasionally and are very happy with the results from working with the trainer.

Beauty Beauty spent the first two years of her life in a crate in a bathroom at a hairsalon. She was only walked in the morning for a few minutes. Her only contact with people was when they went into the bathroom. She was never socialized with any other animals. There was a pit bull in another crate in the same room. Shari was notified of the situation and immediately made arrangements to remove both dogs. The owner surrendered Beauty, was not able to bring the pit bull it was owned by someone else. Shari immediately took Beauty to the vet for a check-up and to be spayed. She was in foster care with Rotti Rescue for about a month.

Beauty was evaluated and other than not liking cats, she did very well. Beauty was recently adopted by a loving couple who say she is the sweetest girl they have ever met. She goes on a walk every morning and evening. She has a fenced in yard to run around in. Her favorite thing is watching her mom exercise and sleeping on her new bed. She is very happy and never never has to worry about being left in a crate again.

Paws Unlimited placed Hagrid in a loving home in January 2007. He is living with a female rottweiler named Harley. His favorite things include kissing you, hiding his head under things so that you have to look for him, and protecting the bathtub from monsters.
